The Sierra Nevada is the highest peak in Europe, 32 kilometres from Granada by road and it offers excellent conditions of snow. Hotels situated near the slopes of the ski resort.

Attractions and activities

To enjoy the snow with the children, you can go on snowmobile rides or snow racket walks. Snow racket walks 10 euros for 10 minutes from 5 to 12 years old.
Toboggans: 10 euros one hour, from 5 years
Russian sledge: 5 euros per person, where children from 4 to 7 years have to look after by an adult.
Visit the Mirlo Blanco playground which offers many activities.

Ski season

Depending on the snow levels, the season generally runs from the end of November, beginning of December until the end of April or early May.

There is an active nightlife in the Sierra Nevada resort. The Discoteca Slalom is one of the trendier and most popular night spots, but there are many other ‘disco pubs’ to choose from.

Who goes?

Most skiers and visitors to the Sierra Nevada come from Spain – Madrid and the cities of Andalucía. The population of the Sierra Nevada in 1990 estimated at 618,000 and projected to triple to 2,000,000 by 2040. Alongside a loyal British crowd, many from Alicante and Murcia, the majority (around 80%) of the Sierra Nevada’s skiers are Spanish.

When to go

Plan well your skiing holidays, keep in mind that the last week of February the children of the schools of Andalusia have a week of holidays. Most children don’t actually get to go skiing, but February is one of the busiest months, so beware. Also, weekends and banks holidays are particularly busy.
