Seville, one of the key historical points of Al Andalus. An ancient Roman city founded in 206 BC by Publius Cornelius Scipius. Itálica was the first and largest Roman settlement in southern Spain. The Roman city transformed Andalucia into one of Rome’s richest and best-organised colonies. Considered one of the earliest Roman settlements in Spain.
The first king of Seville was Abu al-Qasim (1023–1042). He was qadi of Seville and declared independence of the province of Seville from Caliphate of Córdoba after its downfall in 1031, becoming king of Seville as Abbad I. The second king was his son Abbad II al-Mu’tadid (1042–1069), the last ruler being Muhammad al-Mu’tamid (1069–1091). The Almohad a Berber dynasty (1130 – 1269), founded on the religious teachings of Ibn Tūmart (died 1130). The achievements of the Almohad Empire marked the history and the art of the Western Muslim world. From their origins in the mountains of the Anti-Atlas and the High Atlas, the Almohads managed to found the greatest empire the western part of Dâr al-Islam had ever known, stretching from Tripolitania to the Atlantic and including al-Andalus. Seville is a city where we can witness the fusion of the Iberian paradox. Becoming a modern capital which remounts back to the Romans, a place of a diversity of different civilizations.
